St Ives Guildhall bookings rocket
ST IVES Town Council has reported a massive increase in bookings at The Guildhall since they took control of the 500 seater venue.
The facility was previously under the control of Cornwall Council, and before that Penwith Council, when it only really saw use during the September Festival and for weekends of Judo and the beer festival.
But St Ives Town Council has made a conscious effort to bring bookings in to make the building pay.
And in August the Guildhall has held 31 separate events – from shows to roller discos to fairs and markets.
Town and Cornwall Councillor Tim Andrewes and deputy town clerk Jeremy Ward attribute the success to a policy of ‘Fair Fees’ and face to face dealing.
Mr Andrewes said he was “delighted” with the “dramatic increase” in bookings.
He said the behind the scenes support of the Friends of the Guildhall (FoG), who lay on bar facilities, and the recent installation of disabled access and new toilets had also made the venue more attractive to prospective bookers.
