St Ives Lifeboats called out to search for 'person in the water'
St Ives Lifeboat crews were called out last night after receiving reports of a person in the water off the coast of Hayle.
A member of the public put a call in to the police after becoming concerned that they spotted someone in the sea between Gwithian and Hayle Beach.
Both lifeboats from St Ives and a team from Portreath were launched on the search at 6.40pm.
A spokesperson from the Coastguard, said: “We searched for as long as we could with the light. Nothing was found. The lifeboats returned at 8.15pm.”
She added that the Coastguard are waiting to hear from the police today as to whether the search would resume this morning.
