AN Elliott Harris strike midway through the first half saw Hayle into the last eight of the Supplementary Cup after a keenly fought local derby at The Saltings.

The only goal of the game came after 25 minutes when Marcus Smith, who earlier hit the home bar with a free kick, put Harris through to beat advancing home keeper Tony Simons.

Ashley Matthews shaved the upright 10 minutes later as Hayle continued to have the better of the first half. But Chris Lock brought a fine save from visiting keeper Dave Allen just before half-time as the home side began to dominate.

Ross Duncan saw a free kick cleared off the Hayle goal-line after 63 minutes and Lock, Martin Harding and Simon Carter all had shots blocked or saved by Allen.

Man of the match: Ashley Matthews (Hayle).
