St Ives holds its breath as high winds and raging seas batter the town

STRONG winds and huge waves had the people of St Ives keeping a nervous eye on the sea as high tide approached yesterday evening.

Some shopkeepers sandbagged their doors along Wharf Road as some waves crashed more than 20 feet over the top of the lifeboat house and the harbour wall and others swept onto the road.

And exposed areas of front like Lambeth Walk took a battering from some massive waves, as our photograph shows.
