Dozens took part in the BBC2 Stargazing Live programme on Tuesday.

It was organised with the help of Brian Sheen, director of the Roseland Observatory, and was crammed with an array of activities, including a live link to a Mars Rover replica in Shetland.

Speakers covered topics including life on other planets and the Big Bang theory, while workshops explored the world of telescopes, meteorites and the history of sundials.
