Stranded driver rescued from Bude road flood by firefighters

A STRANDED driver was rescued from flood water at Bude this morning.

This is a picture posted on Twitter by Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service after specialist swift water rescue technicians from Bude Fire Station were called to the aid of a stranded driver at Rodds Bridge near Lower Upton.

Firefighters said he got stuck after driving over a humpback bridge crossing the Bude Canal.

The man managed to get out his car but called the fire brigade for help as he was surrounded by fast-flowing and rising water.

They escorted him to safety after arriving on the scene at about 11am.

The fire service has advised drivers to take care on the roads as there is still a lot of surface water today following heavy rain overnight.
