Student, 25, dies in first week of course
A university student has died less than a week into his course.
William Maskell, who was a first year student at the University of Exeter, was taken ill on September 26.
The 25-year-old, from the South East, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital near the city centre where he was later pronounced dead.
The university spokesman said: "We are very sorry to have to report the death of one of our students. The university has been in touch with his family to offer our deepest condolences and support.
"This is deeply tragic and sad news and our thoughts are with William's family and friends. "It is important that the people who knew him, and were involved in helping him, are supported during this difficult time," the spokesman added. No further details were available on the cause of Mr Maskell's death.
Members of staff from the university's chaplaincy team and wellbeing services have been made available to speak with those in need of support.
Mr Maskell was studying at the university's College of Life and Environmental Sciences and lived in the Birks Grange halls of residence on New North Road.
