Students hope for places at Oxbridge
EIGHTEEN students from Truro and Penwith College, including several from the Penwith campus, have been offered conditional places at Cambridge or Oxford.
Four were for medicine, a course for which both universities have received record numbers of applications.
The Oxbridge hopefuls are from all over Cornwall and study on both A-level and International Baccalaureate programmes in a diverse range of subjects including human, social and political science, law with French, maths and natural science.
The college provides specialised support for students wanting to apply to Oxford and Cambridge, including visits from and to the universities, dedicated Oxbridge events, pre-interview tests, one-to-one mentoring and mock interviews, and Ben Whitby, who studies at Penwith, said: "The lecturers have been incredibly helpful in my application.

"The Medics Academy, which is run in partnership with student doctors from the Peninsula Medical School, was so useful. I'd recommend it to anyone who's considering medicine as a career."
Rachel Cartwright said: "I've had a really good experience at Penwith. All the teachers are really supportive, which makes it a fantastic environment to learn in.
"We were lucky to have lots of interview preparation from our tutors and outside speakers, which was very useful.
"I'm happy and excited to be offered a place."
Martin Tucker, director of Penwith College, said: "I'm absolutely delighted with the success of our students at both our Truro and our Penzance sites.
"In relation to Penwith College, this is a very significant achievement, as this is the second year running that Oxbridge offers have been made to our students, and for some of the most sought-after courses.
"This is further evidence of the exceptional quality of teaching and learning and the excellent opportunities now available at this college."
