MORE: Sue James to calm St Just housing fears
RUMOURS that an affordable housing development in St Just is to be allocated to people outside the county are untrue, says Cornwall Council's Sue James.
According to the former mayor there are some who believe 36 properties currently being built in the town are set aside for those in need of a home in Liverpool.
Earlier this summer The Cornishman received an anonymous letter outlining fears that the rumours were a reality.
But Kevin McFadden, St Just's mayor, who sold the land, and the council said the rumours were false.

The council stated a "planning agreement confirms eligible applicants need a local connection".
Mrs James has called a public drop in session next month to quash concerns over the Gews Farm site.
"The rumours keep going round - I have had people nearly in tears because they think they are going to miss out," she said.
"They think these houses are best thing to happen to St Just.
"It must be awful to feel they might not get a chance."
The councillor hopes the session will be an opportunity to reiterate to the public that the development is for the local community.
"I want to give people the option to come and talk," she said. "Hopefully they will be reassured."
Sanctuary Housing, who own the site, will also see representatives on hand to discuss how to apply for one of the builds.
Mrs James said there are over 200 people on Cornwall's social housing scheme register in the St Just and Pendeen parish.
The site is hoped to be completed in spring next year and will see a mixture of houses and bungalows.
Earlier this year the council reported that most will be available to rent, while around 10 may be listed for sale - with a possibility of shared ownership terms.
The drop in will take place on Tuesday October 15, between 4-6.30pm at St Just Town Council.
