The grandmother of six and stepmother of three was for many years a caretaker at Cros-an-Wra Chapel and was also a Sunday school teacher.

The former St Buryan school pupil had a variety of jobs including as a cleaner and on local farms.

Her stepdaughter-in-law, Lena, said that she had only ever left Cornwall on one occasion – for her honeymoon in Devon.

She said: "On the big day we made her a nice cake and had a party. She was very plain-living, hardworking with a very strong faith."
