Support Truro's City of Lights parade "bit buy bit"
The organisers of Truro's City of Lights festival are giving people from across Cornwall the opportunity to sponsor part of this year's event.
The voluntary community interest company launched their Buy a Bit campaign last week, enabling people to sponsor anything from individual willow stems to whole lanterns in next month‘s City of Lights parade.
The annual non for profit festival, which is in its 17th year, relies on the generous donations from members of the public and local businesses.
Clare Hearn, City of Lights fundraiser said; “The most challenging aspect of City of Lights is finding enough money to make it all happen.
“At the moment we still have a long way to go in our fundraising. We know that about 25,000 people come to see City of Lights each year and if we could only get each individual to give £1, I’m sure we would be successful in ensuring the future of the largest Christmas lantern parade in the UK."
An individual willow stem, which is also know as a withy, costs as little as £2 to sponsor and people can also make donations to the events team, the musicians and the materials fund.
This year’s expect the unexpected themed parade will take place on November 20 and will involve more than 500 small lanterns, 14 giant lanterns and 750 school children.
Sponsorship and donation details for the Buy a Bit campaign can be found at the Truro City of Lights website.
