The suspended chief executive on the Isles of Scilly has threatened to seek judicial review over his treatment.

Philip Hygate was suspended from his job last month as a "neutral act" to allow an investigation to take place. He had been at the centre of questions over his conduct in relation to Bryce Wilby, the now departed headteacher of the island's only school.

Mr Hygate was suspended at a secret session of the council's policy and resources committee.

His solicitor, Peter Keith-Lucas, had told the committee before the press and public were asked to leave, that the members should refer the matter to the full council. However this was overruled and the meeting went ahead.

Mr Keith-Lucas has said that he has now sent a letter to the council saying that the terms of Mr Hygate's contract had been broken and he may seek a judicial review to get his suspension overturned.
