TRURO DENTIST RECOGNISED AT NATIONAL DENTAL AWARDS
Truro-based orthodontist, Jeremy Peak, is celebrating after being named runner-up at the national British Orthodontic Society's 'Against the Odds' competition for his work in transforming the smile of one of his patients against the odds. This is the 3rd time that Jeremy's work has been recognised in this way.
Nominations are made by orthodontic patients whose treatment has had a profoundly positive impact on their confidence and general quality of life. The awards enable patients to say thank you to their orthodontists for their treatment.
At the age of 46, patient Darren Jose feared that there was little that could be done to transform his crooked smile late in life. Jeremy, an award-winning orthodontist at The River Practice Specialist Centre in Truro, was nominated by Darren to thank him after the positive effect Jeremy's treatment had on his confidence and self-esteem.
After always feeling self-conscious about his teeth, Darren found that as he got older they got progressively worse and began to cross over. Fearing that nothing could be done at such a late stage, Darren visited his General Dental Practitioner who referred him to Jeremy Peak.

After meeting with Jeremy and discussing the treatment plan, Darren was overwhelmed to hear that it wasn't too late to have a beaming smile.
Explaining his treatment, Darren said: "I've always thought that braces were for young people and being over 40, I'd missed my chance to have a smile to be confident about. Having met Jeremy I can't explain how relieved I was to learn that it wasn't too late to turn my teeth around.
"Jeremy took the time to explain the process and what to expect along the way. The results that he's achieved are truly phenomenal and I can't thank him enough for his work and support. You wouldn't think that having straighter teeth would have such an impact on your self-esteem but I was suddenly more confident and outgoing.
"I'm so pleased that his hard work has been recognised in being named runner-up in this competition. His work has had a profound effect on my smile and, ultimately, my confidence and for that I'll forever be thankful.
"I'm incredibly pleased that I saw Jeremy. My advice to others in my position is that orthodontic treatment really isn't limited to age; anyone can improve their smile and it's never too late."
Jeremy added: "To be able to really make a difference to someone's quality of life is one of the great privileges of our profession. My philosophy has always been that we are treating people, not teeth, and the number of times that we have received an award for dramatic changes reflects the dedication of our team in understanding the needs of our patients, in being able to offer a complete range of options, and in delivering exceptional results. I am very grateful to Darren for taking the time to enter the awards and share his experiences."
Darren Jose received a brand new Oral B Electric Toothbrush, to help keep his new smile as healthy as possible.
'Against the Odds' was created by the British Orthodontic Society, who represents the dental speciality of orthodontics. It aims to highlight the benefits of orthodontic treatment and seeks to raise awareness on the impact of treatment for orthodontic patients.
