TV chefs were crowned winners in an anonymous seafood cook-off competition when they visited a celebration of crab and lobster.

The celebration, in the picturesque privately-owned village of Clovelly, in North Devon, saw Jun Tanaka and Galton Blackiston go head-to-head with local chefs in a cookery competition.

And they were so delighted with the village that Mr Tanaka, of Channel 4's Cooking It!, has vowed to return for his birthday in November, to coincide with the Herring Festival,

Sue Howarth, organiser of Sunday's Clovelly Crab and Lobster Feast, said: "It was the first time either of them have visited Clovelly, and they thought it was absolutely fantastic.

"The festival is in aid of the National Lobster Hatchery, which does brilliant work in rearing young lobsters and releasing them when fishermen bring in the pregnant ones they catch."

Sunday's event featured the chance to get up close to young lobster, and to take part in craft and theatre activities, as well as plenty of opportunity to try local, fresh seafood, washed down with a glass of bubbly.

Ms Howarth said: "Clovelly is known for its lobster and crab, and we want to support our local fishermen, who all use sustainable fishing methods."
