Talk to feature low-carbon cars
MOTORISTS wishing to switch from petrol to electric-powered cars are invited to a talk on low-carbon vehicles and the merits of joining a car club.
Advances in technology mean electric cars have come a long way since the Sinclair 5.
Formerly only capable of going as fast as a milk float, they can now top speeds of 100mph.
Matt Trevaskis, of Ecodrive, a Truro firm which sells, rents and leases electric vehicles, will speak about sustainable transport.
This will be followed by a discussion about car clubs. Members book a car which is parked in a central space, open it with a smart card or dedicated key and drive off paying only for the time they use it.
Transition Truro, which organised the event, said the clubs could help people save money and cut parking and congestion problems on the city's streets.
The meeting at Truro Community Library is on March 23 at 7.30pm. At 6.30pm people will have an opportunity to "look under the bonnet" of an electric car. For more information, contact Transition Truro on 01872 278772 or e-mail info@transitiontruro.org.uk

“Is there much point in this when the governments grants into electric cars (the £5,000 scrappage scheme) are all proposed to be in Mid-North England?”
