A FORMER lifeguard who threatened police officers over the arrest of his partner had to be shot with a Taser gun to calm him down.

Warren Brewer, 20, of Glebe Place, Ruan Minor, Helston, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates' Court to resisting a police officer at Penzance on December 28.

Alison May, for the prosecution, said police had been called to an address in Henry Street, Penzance, after midnight where there was an argument going on involving Brewer, his girlfriend, her parents and younger brother. She was arguing and being aggressive and the police arrested her. At this, Brewer tried to pull her away, swearing at the officers, and then threatening to get a baseball bat. After being Tasered he told officers: "I am going to learn from this. I won't threaten the police again."

He said everyone had been drinking and an argument had got out of hand.

Chris Spencer, for Brewer, said he had been a lifeguard but after an accident on a motorcycle he could not find employment.

On the night of the offence he had been out drinking with his girlfriend, her parents and brother. Brewer was told to visit an attendance centre for 36 hours.
