Inspector Mark Richards from Truro police said: “We are looking into the death of a 15-year-old schoolboy who was a pupil at Richard Lander School. He had been reported as a missing person and was found by police in Scorrier shortly before midnight.”
Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
The West Briton understands Tom knew Alexander Philbey, a 16-year-old former Richard Lander pupil who was found dead in woodland near Blackwater in March.
A friend wrote on Facebook, the social networking site: “It makes me feel sick to realise just how many people have suicide on their minds daily, we just don't realise.”
Another friend commented: “Gutted at the loss of another young lad. Cornwall needs to offer more help towards people struggling.”
Another comment said it was “a cruel world” in which “all the wrong things happen to the wrong people”.
Steve Mulcahy, head teacher of Richard Lander, said “It is with deep sadness that I share the news of the death of a current student at Richard Lander School. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and our staff and student body at this most difficult time.”
