Teenager arrested after fires

POLICE have arrested a female teenager in connection with a spate of bin fires in Hayle in the early hours of Wednesday.

Police officers were called to the scene at 3.50am by the fire service who were attending bin fires near The Cornubia Inn in Copperhouse.

Inspector Jean Philips said: "We have arrested an 18-year-old female who is in custody at the moment."

One appliance from Camborne fire station was called to Fore Street, where the crew found two wheelie bins alight. These were extinguished using a high pressure hose reel jet.

A statement from the fire service said: "While at this incident, another bin was found alight in the immediate vicinity, which was again extinguished using a hose reel.

"In a short space of time the crew was sent to a paper recycling bin in the car park off Commercial Road in Hayle, which was well alight and was again extinguished using a high pressure hose reel."
