TEHIDY Park won through to the semi-finals of the CAW Cornwall Bowl after coming from behind to defeat Bowood Park at a windy Perranporth on Sunday.

An injury to Bowood's Adrian White, which meant he could not continue after the fourth hole, gifted Tehidy an early point.

But Bowood hit back to win the top match at the 16th before Les Driver and Nathan Andrew and Ken Allen and Treve James gave Tehidy a winning lead.

Their eventual 3½-1½ victory saw them through to a semi-final clash against Merlin, who defeated Truro 3-2 at Newquay, over the weekend of February 11/12 at a venue to be announced.

In the other half of the draw, Carlyon Bay continued the defence of their Bowl title with a battling win over Falmouth at West Cornwall, also on Sunday.

Bay opened up an early 2-0 lead, but Falmouth hit back to take the third match, Roger Fairburn and Gary Wall defeating Mike Hounsell and Tim Searle by two holes.

Falmouth's Brian Shovlin and Richard Marsh fought back from four down against Bay's Andy Rees and Will Sumner to level on the 17th.

But brothers Martin and John Gough ended Falmouth's hopes with a 3&2 win over Grant Nicholls and Ben Short.

Bay will now face Trethorne, who defeated China Fleet 3-2 at St Austell, in the semi-finals.

The venues for the semi-finals of the Frank Wills Salver have been announced by CGU secretary Peter Batty.

Bowood Park will face Newquay at Trevose (10am start), while Bude and North Cornwall take on Trevose at St Enodoc (9.24am).

The winners will face each other in the final on the first weekend in March at a venue to be announced.

The 32 remaining pairs in the main and Plate competitions in the Perranporth Open Winter Foursomes will have another go at completing their third round matches on Sunday after thick fog caused play to be abandoned earlier in the month.

The matches will continue from where they left off after only a couple of hours play was possible on January 8.

After completion of the third round the eight winners in each competition will then go straight out on to the course and play their quarter-final matches, which were always scheduled to be completed on Sunday.

After an hour's delay due to fog Falmouth pair Dave Holland and Steve Briers took the amateur award by three clear points at the latest meeting of the Cornwall County Professional Golfers' Alliance at Mullion last week.

They carded a superb 42 points ahead of four pairs on 39 points. Killiow pro Richard Sadler won the individual professional's award with a fine one under par round for 37 points.
