Newton Abbot town criers shout it out for top spot
The booming voices of town criers from across the country rang out through the streets of a Devon town at the weekend.
Newton Abbot played host to the competition between members of the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers on Saturday.
In all, 20 criers took part in the colourful and particularly noisy event, performing both a "home cry" to promote their town and an "open cry" on a subject of their choosing.
The overall title was taken by Mark Wylie, from Calne in Wiltshire, followed by last year's winner Roy Goodwin, from Ilfracombe, and 2011 runner up Nick Prideaux, from Bodmin.
