FILM fanatics gathered in Lostwithiel on Monday evening for the launch of the town's new film society.

Peter Griffin from ITV Westcountry officially opened Lost in Film, which has been set up after the sell-out success of a test screening in the town in June.

Residents attended the event and watched the society's first screening of Son of Rambow, which was released earlier this year.

Ian Hutchinson, director of the Plymouth Arts Centre, heads the Lost in Film committee.

He said: "There is a real sense of community and pride in Lostwithiel.

"We feel that it's really important to give something to the community and have something that joins us together.

"When we did the test screening earlier in the year we had 100 tickets and we were expecting 50 to go but we actually sold out quite early on and it was so exciting that we had an audience.

"We will be showing nothing more than two years old.

"They will be high quality independent, foreign and British films, the very best of independent world cinema."

Formed by five Lostwithiel residents, the society plans to show a different film on the last Monday of every month.

On October 27, Lost in Film will show The Darjeeling Limited which has a 12A certificate.

The comedy stars Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman and will be shown at the Church Rooms on Church Lane in Lostwithiel.

The doors and the bar open at 7pm with the film screening at 8pm. Tickets for both films are available for £4 from Watts Trading on Fore Street in Lostwithiel or on the door. It is advised that filmgoers purchase tickets in advance as previous screenings have sold out.
