Trainee joiner becomes top apprentice
A ST JUST trainee joiner has been rewarded for his eye for detail and become one of the top apprentices in Cornwall.
18-year-old Shaun Cutting won the most improved and best joiner of the year award at Cornwall College.
Shaun, who is in the final year of his apprenticeship and works for Celtic Cross in St Just, specialises in making handmade joinery such as windows, doors and staircases.
Talking about his apprentice, owner Duncan Semmens at Celtic Cross said: "He is a bright lad who works hard and I hope he'll stay with me full time when he has finished his course.
"The staff at the college keep an eye on them and the one that shows the most initiative and do the best job gets the award.
"His work is tidy, clean and punctual so I am very pleased with him."
Shaun intends to stay with Celtic Cross following his apprenticeship. "It's nice to win something, I haven't really won anything before," he says.
"My family has always done joinery so I thought I would do it as well.
"When I finish the course I'll carry on doing what I am doing. I want to stay where I am."
