Training in X-ray use under discussion
DESPITE a delay in the pledged training for using the Isles of Scilly's X-ray machine, Andrew Abbott, NHS Kernow's director of operations, said it remained committed to ensuring people living in the islands could have choice and access to health services either in Scilly or the mainland.
"We hope to begin training of the Near Patient Testing equipment within the next three months while recognising the limitations on GPs' time, particularly during the summer holiday," he said.
"We are also working on a business case to use the X-ray equipment at St Mary's, which is more complex than Near Patient Testing.
"This will involve agreeing how much the service will cost to provide and identifying a mainland hospital to support the clinical assessments that are taken on the Isles. Once this has been agreed, we can identify the training requirements of each clinician who will be using the equipment."
