Treleigh School in Redruth to "double in size"
A school in Redruth is set to “double in size” thanks to plans from Cornwall Council.
Treleigh Community Primary School will double the amount of pupils it can take on when four new modular classrooms are built by 2015.
The plans will see a phased increase of reception pupils taken on over a number of years, once the classrooms are built on land next to the school purchased by Cornwall Council last year.
Builders rolled on to the site this week to begin building foundations for the new classrooms.

Headteacher at Treleigh School Helen Collinge said: “The expansion is good news for us, we’re currently full to capacity.
“We hope they will be in place by 2015 and work on the basis that we will take in more pupils with each reception year, so as to not make the huge jump straight away.
“Redruth is expanding all the time and primary schools are struggling to fit pupils in. It’s great news for us.”
A spokesperson from Cornwall Council said: “The Local Authority is currently working with the school on a phased site development plan for expansion to 420 pupil places.
“A parcel of adjacent land was purchased in June 2013 to facilitate this.
“The delivery of phase 1 expansion which will see the school expand to 330 places by September 2015.
“Treleigh School is the Local Authority’s identified short to mid term mitigation to the additional pupil numbers in the local area.
“The additional land will ensure the children attending the school now and in the future, will have adequate external play space for their needs once the new classrooms are built.”
Currently Treleigh holds 210 pupils, but once the expansion is complete this will jump to 410, according to Cornwall Council.
Redruth is just one area in Cornwall identified as needing more school places.
Schools in Bodmin, Newquay and Mt Hawke are also to expand.
