Trengwainton tea rooms scoop gold award
A TEA room in West Cornwall is celebrating a prestigious Gold Award given to them by Taste of the West.
Nicola Osborne, proprietor of Trengwainton Tea Rooms, said: “I am thrilled to be awarded this high accolade. It is a boost for all of my hard-working staff who, have worked diligently and professionally throughout a very busy season producing home-cooked food to the highest standard.
“With the magnificent summer weather, the temperature in the kitchen soared; it could be quite unbearable and draining for staff by the end of the day, however, not one member of staff moaned or took days off for the beach.”
To gain the award, independent Taste of the West food and drink experts assessed the extent of local sourcing, the quality of food and drink on offer, along with the service, atmosphere and ambience.

Nicola seeks quality local produce and harvests fruit and vegetables from the National Trust’s kitchen garden, only 100 metres walk away.
Nicola added: “Planning with the kitchen gardeners in February, meant that we have dug up beetroot, potatoes and leeks, picked peas, and beans, cut calabrese, courgettes, spinach, swiss chard and herbs, and presently we are using aubergines, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes fresh from the glasshouse and apples from the orchard.
“In fact with an abundance of produce we are now pickling onions and making chutneys and relishes.”
Trengwainton Tea Rooms closes this season on November 3 but re-opens on February 16, 2014.
Nicola is currently taking bookings for private Christmas functions and Christmas lunches on December 5, 6, 8, 12, 13 and 15. For further information call 01736 331717.
