● The Rowing for Prostate Charity Golf Day at Trevose on Saturday raised around £2,500 towards the cost of shipping the boat that Billy Gammon, brother of the club's managing director Nick, will attempt to row across the Indian Ocean with three colleagues next April.
The boat, the Yorkshire Warrior, which will be renamed prior to the race from Geraldton in Western Australia to Mauritius, was on display at the club during the event.
"It's pretty small, so rather him than me," mused Nick Gammon. "But the day went really well, with 16 teams taking part. Callaway kindly sponsored the prizes and several local businesses donated items for the raffle which was very successful.
"Billy also raised another £1,700 last week at a comedy night during which an auction of items was held at a club in London."
Nick himself was one of the four-man team that won the golf event. Partnered by club pro Gary Leneghan, former Ireland football international Keith O'Neill and Angelo Kelly, his team carded 76 points in the betterball Stableford event (two scores to count) to win on countback from a team of Trevose amateurs Sam Ruby, Dave Foster, Roger Bennett and Mac McMahon. A team from Dainton Park in Dorset were third with 75 points.
