THE trial of a Newquay town councillor accused of nine sexual offences against young boys has been adjourned for at least six weeks to allow for witness statements to be collected.

Gary Redman, 55, of Cranstar Apartments, Hilgrove Road, Newquay, faces eight charges of indecently assaulting two boys and one of gross indecency against a boy under 14. He denies all charges.

The charges allege a variety of sexual activities with young boys over a period from 1995 to 2003.

The case was adjourned at Truro Crown Court on Friday to enable defence witnesses to have statements taken from them and to prepare the defence statement.
