Devon and Cornwall Police said the investigation was now being dealt with by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The engineer is thought to have died when a wooden pole on which he was working collapsed.

Mike Rogers, distribution manager for Western Power Distribution in Bodmin, said: "Ryan was an excellent and much respected employee and a valued member of the team who will be greatly missed''

Western Power said an internal investigation had been launched and it had informed the HSE.

The HSE said further information about the incident could not be provided as the investigation was still under way.

But an HSE spokesperson added: "We can confirm that the HSE has visited the site of the incident at Cawsand and is investigating."
