Trio trawl the decades for key rock 'n' roll influences
High-energy trio Suitenoir fly the flag for pop-fuelled grungy guitar rock with an impressive debut album they'll be airing at dates around their home base of Cornwall in the coming months.
Coventry-born guitarist and frontman Richard Searby-Bates is joined by Launceston bred bassist Lee "Pixie" Matthews and drummer Ryan Hannaford, previously with Downtown Riots, to create a noise that draws magpie-like from their declared influences – Detroit circa 1965-72, London 1977-81, and Seattle 1988-92.
Hot off the press long player Nothing Succeeds Like Excess offers a moreish slice of good old-fashioned, unpretentious rock and roll; it's not going to change the world, but it delivers exactly what it promises.
Recorded with Placebo producer Dare Mason and renowned pop producer Gareth Young in Cornwall, it's a cohesive, well-structured and melodic collection that won't offend the neighbours unless you crank up the volume.
The band wowed the crowds at last year's Relentless Boardmasters and have supported the liked of 70s rockers Nazareth, New Model Army, Queen Adreena, The Subways, Crazy Arm and Paul and the Detroit Breakdown. They also boast a strong online fanbase with a million plays on their MySpace site and 3,000 plays in just two weeks for the punchy video accompanying single Too Young.
Buzz precedes Somerset quartet with 90s leanings
Hotly tipped indie guitar band Towns make their Cornish debut tonight at Truro's B-side at Bunters. The quartet arrive just in time to promote fast-paced new single Gone Are The Days released through Cartoon Records and split with the Brighton band Damages. In their native Weston-Super-Mare, the four close friends grew up sharing a mutual love of 1990s guitar music. After relocating to the more active scene in Bristol, they spent 2011 hosting band nights in the city, while continuing to write, record and hone their Britpoppy shoegaze-style sound. Early demo tracks Fields and Heads Off caught the attention of NME who have placed them in their buzz band list for 2012, so this is an opportunity to catch them before they fly.
Support tonight comes from Cornish outfit Black Tambourines offering 1960s inspired, lo-fi garage punk.
