Troon 5, St Ives Town 1
THREE Troon goals in the first five minutes left St Ives with a mountain they were unable to climb on Saturday, though the final scoreline somewhat flattered the home side.
Before the start of the game a minute's silence was observed in memory of St Ives soldier Paul Fox, who was killed in Afghanistan last week.
The home side opened their account through a Danny Bell penalty after Johnny Jones was brought down in the box. And a minute later Jones himself doubled his side's lead with a close range shot from a corner.
They went further ahead when Shane Richards tapped in after Steve Proctor's cross was headed on by Tom Hogarth.
Richards brought a fine point blank save from visiting keeper Tony Simons later in the half, while at the other end Danny Paynter shaved the home crossbar from a corner by Chris Lock, who also shot narrowly wide from Jak (correct) Hughes' through ball.
Lock and Ross Duncan brought fine saves from home keeper Danny Mitchell early in the second half before Lock headed home substitute Charlie Shields' cross on 72 minutes.
But after Simons had denied Jones with another fine save, Matthew Witts fired home a low drive before Bell completed the scoring with his second penalty after Danny Newman was brought down in the box by Mikey Fowler three minutes from time.
St Ives: T Simons, R Duncan, J Curnow (C Shields 70), C Lock, S Carter, M Allen, M Fowler, C Richards, J Hughes, E Wilkes, D Paynter.
Man of the match: Simon Carter (St Ives).
