Truro £3m sewerage works postponed but still to go ahead after South West Water meeting
A controversial £3 million scheme to update sewerage works in the centre of Truro has been postponed but will still be carried out.
Business leaders and the local MP met with South West Water (SWW) to try to find a way forward after traders reacted angrily to the announcement of a year-long scheme.

A £3m sewerage project in Truro has been postponed but will go ahead after a meeting chaired by Sarah Newton MP.
Initially SWW said the project could start in April but now the scheme has been put back. A new start date has not been revealed but the project will now be carried out in phases with a completion date of March 2015.
Sarah Newton, MP for Truro and Falmouth, chaired the meeting attended by SWW, Truro City Councillors, the Truro Business Improvement District team and a range of local businesses.

The works would affect the Kenwyn Street, Little Castle Street and Victoria Square areas of Truro.
Mrs Newton said: "I am hopeful that these works can now go ahead whilst causing the least possible disruption to hard working local business people, local residents, and the city as a whole."
Graham Murphy, SWW's director of engineering, said: "We are aware that the scheme has the potential to cause disruption, which is why we wanted to establish a liaison group to work closely with the local community to put in place measures to minimise the impact of this essential work."
Neil Scott, Truro Bid manager, said: "Clearly this is a large, complex project and businesses are quite rightly concerned about the impact on their trading fortunes – last week's meeting was an important step in established a productive way forward to ensure that these works are undertaken with their needs being heard and attended to."
