Truro City boss Lee Hodges has appointed Martin Jones, of Torpoint, as successor to Dave Newton, who has retired from the post of assistant manager and coach, writes Rhod Mitchell.

Jones is a well known figure in South West youth coaching circles and also has current coaching links with Barclays Premier League club Sunderland.

Hodges first got to know him during his own playing days at Plymouth Argyle, when Jones, now in his early 40s, was coaching the club's youth section.

The City boss said: "We have stayed in touch ever since and become good friends.  He has worked with Newts at Plymouth and has now agreed to help out Truro for nothing until the end of the season.

"I am delighted to have Martin on board and I am sure we will work very well together and he'll be good for the lads. "

"He is very well known as a coach at lots of schools in the region and welcomes the opportunity now to assist at a more senior level.  He also has a lot of good contacts in the game, which will be a bonus."

The pair will first be in action together on Tuesday when City return to Blue Square Bet South action at Treyew Road against Dover Athletic (7pm).

* Meanwhile, tonight's SWPL Premier Division fixture between Plymouth Parkway and Newquay has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Bolitho Park.
