WIN AT FIRST HOME GAME:

Trispen 5, Wendron 1:

Trispen played in their first home game of the season and won a hard fought match against a good Wendron side. Mark Rapsey went close twice early on before releasing Aaron Spear to score after 20 minutes. Trispen doubled their lead five minutes later when substitute Mike Cruise crossed for Rapsey to head home for a half-time lead. Trispen started the second half on top form with young Sam Lawrence scoring from 20 yards after beating two players. Wendron replied almost immediately with a long range shot but with 15 minutes to go Rapsey scored his second and Lawrence added the final goal. Man of the match for Trispen was Graham Hill making his full debut. Depleted Trispen reserves lost 7-1 at St Ives Town with Rob Sharpe scoring their only goal.

Chacewater 6, Mousehole Res 3:

This was an entertaining game enjoyed by players, spectators and the referee who commended both teams on their good football and sportsmanship. An early chance fell to Mike Elliott but he headed wide before Mousehole scored from a 25-yard free-kick in the 19th minute. Strong pressure from the hosts finally resulted in a penalty which Mike Elliott scored. The visiting keeper made a brilliant double save to deny Luke Kelland and Elliott in the 35th minute but he was beaten by Chris Tolley on the stroke of half-time following a good passing move. With Chacewater dominating, Luke Kelland rounded the keeper to score in the 63rd minute and Elliott had a penalty saved soon after. Mousehole pulled a goal back in the 75th minute but Kelland scored from another penalty award and Mike Elliott cleverly beat two defenders to stroke the ball home. Jonny Row struck a good shot for the sixth following another bout of good passing and Mousehole scored a late consolation. In midweek, Chacewater comfortably won 3-0 at Stithians with goals by Mike Elliott (2) and Chris Tolley.

Crown Inn Glory 2, Chacewater Res 10:

The reserves moved up to second place in Mining League Division Two with this thrashing of their Penzance-based opponents. Chacewater, who were leading 3-1 at half-time, had too much pace and guile for Crown to handle and scored through Ian Jenkin (5), Berndan Hitchens (2), Jason Symon (2) and Gavin Bennetts. Without a full squad available, Chacewater were indebted to 74-year-old committee man Don Smith for taking on the role as referee's assistant.

Trevenson 4, Threemilestone 4:

In an even first half Trevenson took the lead in the 44th minute with a goal direct from a free-kick. Within five minutes of the second half the Stones found themselves 3-0 down as the home side punished some poor defending and the game looked all over. The Stones pulled a goal back when James Bright headed in at the back post from a corner and made it 3-2 five minutes later when James Chatterley hit a shot into the top corner of the net from 20 yards. Trevenson went 4-2 up when Lee Fairley gave away a penalty, but the Stones didn't give up and pulled another back when a Trevenson defender miss-judged a high ball and Chatterley nipped in to score, driving the ball past the keeper from just inside the box. With 10 minutes remaining Bright was brought down just inside the area by Matt Sara and Chatterley dispatched the penalty for his hat-trick and a deserved equaliser. Trevenson pushed forward in the last few minutes in search of a winner but Ian Jay made a couple of great blocks and Terry Spargo cleared one off the line as the Stones dug in to take a point from the game which at the start of the half looked out of reach.

SPORTING SUCCESS :

Truro High School student Jordanna Morrish, 13, has achieved a spectacular amount of sporting success over the summer months, competing locally, regionally and nationally. She is currently ranked third in the UK for U13 girls' high jump and 12th in the UK for U13 girls' hurdles. During the South West Inter Counties Championships she represented Cornwall in the high jump clearing an impressive 1.52 metres to win, beating her own personal best and breaking the county record. In the same competition she came second in the 70m hurdles with a new personal best time of 11.72, which is the second best time ever recorded in Cornwall. At the National Independent Schools Championships in Birmingham, Jordanna came second in the high jump and fifth in the hurdles and at the Yeovil Olympiads Trophy Meeting she won both the high jump and the hurdles. And when she's not competing in athletics competitionsm Jordanna travels the country with her two ponies, Fred and Ripple, competing in eventing and show jumping competitions at pre-novice and intra level. She is currently ranked 20th in the UK. Head of PE at Truro high School, Debbie Freeman, said that everyone at the school is extremely proud of all Jordanna's achievements. Miss Freeman said: "Jordanna is an excellent sportswoman and an ambassador for Truro High. She shines at athletics but has also played a part in almost every aspect of sport at this school including netball, hockey and cross country running. AGGIE BLOOD NEW FACES:

St Agnes travelled to Veor with many new faces on Saturday. Those making their league debut included full back Andy Dyer, second row Hugh Doble, hooker Ben Parekh and scrum half Tony Robins. St Agnes started the game at a high tempo and spent the first 20 minutes camped inside the Veor 22 metre line. But with a new side that had not played together they were struggling in the scrums and were not able to capitalise on their early possession. The problem St Agnes were facing in the scrums was not helped when they lost captain and prop forward Will Hewitson due to a blood injury. Will was replaced by Frank Axon, who himself was returning from an injury. St Agnes trailed at half-time 17-0 following an excellent kicking display from Veor scrum half John Mankee. Aggie started the second half as they had the first, at high tempo and with a purpose. It was not long before they broke the deadlock when Lock Sam Sargent picked the ball from a ruck 20 metres out and stormed through a gap. Sam galloped towards the try line and dived over underneath the posts. The conversion was added by fly half Jamie Watkins. Despite their best efforts St Agnes were unable to add any further points and conceded two late tries to a stronger Veor side. St Agnes' man of the match was Gavin Bailey who had an outstanding game in both attack and defence.

St Agnes squad: W Hewitson, B Parekh, M Camps, S Sargent, H Doble, R Jefferies, A Ossie, P Butler, T Robins, J Watkins, G Bailey, P Wheeler, C Barbarian, S Williams, A Dyer.

LAUNCESTON CASTLES 26, TRURO WARRIORS 69:

A fairly young Truro seconds team travelled to Polson Bridge to take on an experienced Launceston Castles team. Youth showed in the first 20 minutes with Truro storming to a 29-0 lead, with tries scored by scrum half Daniel 'DD' Dunkin (2) full-back Rich Bennetts (2) and one from wing Rob Stevenson, two being converted by Dunkin. As Truro slowed down Launceston upped the pace to score two tries , one converted just before the whistle. The second half saw the Castles start where they left off, scoring two quick tries, both converted. Indiscipline by Truro saw No.10 Ash Richies binned and defending a slender lead. Truro held on to score another six tries through No.8 Darren Symons, centre Ronnie Rowe, fly half Richies, replacement flanker Andy Tucker and two from new boy Darrah O'Murphy on his debut. Five were converted by 'DD'.

Tae Kwon-Do

HUGE MEDAL HAUL:

Truro's Tae Kwon-Do elite took part in the Midlands Championships on Sunday September 21, returning with a huge haul of medals. This prestigious annual event held in Worcester, saw competitors from across the UK compete in point stop and continuous sparring and in performing set routines known as patterns in front of the judges. The martial arts students from the Truro area gave a great demonstration of Tae Kwon-Do at the Truro Carnival, the day before this competition, which made this a busy weekend for Truro Tae Kwon-Do Academy. The Academy is based at Truro Leisure Centre on Sundays at 6pm and Fridays at 8pm and all new students receive a full month's free training. TRURO TAKE TOURNAMENT:

Truro men's first team journeyed to Plymouth Marjon's for their final pre-season fixture, in a tournament against some of the best sides in the South West. They have a good pedigree in this tournament, having been runners up in 2005, and winners in 2006, and they were hoping to make up for a disappointing performance from last year. Truro's first game against a young, well organised Ashmoor side began with the Devon side having the best of the play. Short on defenders, Truro had decided to only play Dave Powell and Sam Dunstan at the back with Ged Milward, normally a centre forward, sweeping in front of them. Gradually they asserted themselves, and with captain Ben Eddy running the midfield took the game to Ashmoor. Truro got a succession of corners but were unable to convert, although from this point Ashmoor never seriously threatened Caton's goal, and with time running down it looked as if the points would be shared before Westaway popped up out of nowhere to slot the ball home and gain a barely deserved three points. Truro's second game saw them up against a dangerous Exeter Hornets side. Very much a midfield battle, Truro held Hornets easily, but could make little inroads to their goal. It took a sublime move from the whole team to break them down, culminating in a perfect cross from Matthews that Eddy smashed in at chest height. Truro's third game was against Isca. Immediately Truro's packed midfield clamped down on their passing ability, allowing Kendal and Rust on the wings to terrorise the Isca defence. This time Truro were not wasting any opportunities and scored regularly, Eddy and Westaway getting another each with Matthews also weighing in. With three wins and probable winners of their group there was still no room for complacency against their last group opponents, Marjon's. Truro continued where they had left off against Isca, Parsons and Tatlow ran the hosts ragged, Westaway seemed to score every time he touched the ball, and Milward showed he still has a claim up front with a classic striker's goal. Again Caton and co were beaten in the last few minutes but 4-1 was more than enough to gain maximum points and book themselves in the final. Returning to the final for the third time, Truro once again faced PGSOB's, who they had been runners up to on penalties three years prior. Truro managed to repel PG's attempt to finish them off, gradually forcing themselves back into the game. Truro piled on the pressure, Milward grabbed the vital equaliser and with just a minute or two to go, Matthews hammered in a shot to break PG's hearts, winning the game and the tournament 2-1. A very satisfying way to finish their pre-season, Truro start their league campaign next Saturday away to City of Bath.
