Truro MP Sarah Newton "reneged on promise" over gay marriage vote
The Truro and Falmouth MP Sarah Newton has been accused of "reneging on her promise" over the gay marriage bill.
Mrs Newton, who is also deputy chairman of the Conservative Party, refused to vote on gay marriage despite clear opposition to the bill from constituents.
The decision was taken despite months of consultation with voters in the area who voiced their opposition to the bill. Mrs Newton had always promised voters she would reflect their feelings in the vote.
