Truro and Penwith College students get 18 Oxbridge places
Students from across Cornwall are on their way to two of the finest universities in the world.
Truro and Penwith College students are celebrating after being offered conditional places at Oxford and Cambridge.
A total of 18 students will go the top universities to study subjects ranging from medicine to French.
Jade Treneary from Truro has a place at Cambridge to study human, social and political science. She said: “It feels surreal, and really good. Truro College have been really good in supporting my application.”
Jade encouraged other students considering applying to Oxbridge to go ahead.
She said: “You don’t know unless you apply. It’s been a really great experience, the lecturers and staff are so supportive and so encouraging. I’ve really enjoyed my time here.”
The college students took both the A Level and International Baccalaureate programmes.
Akshay Easwaran, from Truro, is off to study Medicine at Cambridge.
She said: “I’m really happy. It’s crazy. I never thought I’d get in, I just thought the experience would be interesting.
“I’d advise future students to just go for it. The application process is an experience in itself, you’ll be a better person for it.”
Andy Stittle, quality assurance leader at Truro and Penwith College, said the college had an intensive programme to support Oxbridge applications.
He said: “It includes visits from and to the universities, dedicated Oxbridge events, pre-interview test and application support, one-to-one mentoring, talks from current Oxbridge students, and mock interviews with outside specialist help, including the involvement of our governors.”
David Walrond, Truro and Penwith College Principal, congratulated all of the successful applicants.
He said: “These students have worked really hard for this success .They have supported their ability with commitment, and made the most of the high quality of specialist post-16 teaching at the college, and the additional expert support available here. I am genuinely delighted for them.”
