TWO of the city's flagship retail stores have gone into administration.

National music and entertainment giant HMV warned in December that the group was in talks with banks over its future, following worse-than-expected trading in the run-up to Christmas.

Today administrators Deloitte said it would continue to run the 239 stores across the country open while it looked for a buyer.

The chain's store at Lemon Quay in Truro, which opened in 2003, is still trading but a spokesman for the store said he did not know how long it would remain open.

The company has said it will not be accepting or issuing gift vouchers any more.

Last week two Jessops camera stores in Cornwall, at Truro and Penzance, closed their doors as a result of the photographic company going into administration with the loss of 1,370 jobs across the country.

Joint administrator Rob Hunt, from Pricewaterhouse Coopers, said: "It is apparent that we cannot continue to trade and as a result we have had to make the difficult decision to begin the closure of all 187 Jessops stores at the close of business today."

As a result of the move, Jessops is unable to honour vouchers, cannot complete any outstanding photo processing and is no longer able to accept returned products from customers.
