University staff in one-day strike over pay
Students across the Westcountry are set to face disruption as university academics and administrative staff stage a one-day walkout in an ongoing row over pay.
Members of the University and College Union (UCU), UNISON and Unite will take their first ever coordinated action tomorrow , with early morning picket lines at planned at Westcountry universities including Exeter, Falmouth, Plymouth and The University of St Mark and St John. The University of Exeter and University of Plymouth are planning rallies.
Staff at Plymouth University will mount a picket line in Portland Square in the city centre campus.
The University of St Mark and St John will also be hit by the strike, but it is understood staff will not picket because the university is holding its graduation ceremonies on the same day.

The unions said yesterday they were disappointed the employers had made no effort to come back to the negotiating table for talks to try and avert industrial action. Classes will be cancelled across the UK as workers, angry at a 'miserly' pay offer of 1%, walk out. All three unions said they expected there to be widespread support for the first walk-out over pay in universities for seven years.
