£250k owed in parking
CORNWALL Council is owed more than £250,000 in parking fines, new figures show. The council currently has more than 3,300 fines which have not been paid – ten times more than there were last year. The figures relate to Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) which are issued for on and off-street parking offences. Responding to a Freedom of Information (FoI) request the council revealed that for 2012-13 it is currently owed £263,247.44 in fines from penalty charge notices. In the year to date 33,256 notices have been issued and 3,358 are still outstanding. The council said that despite the high figure it was confident that by the end of the year the number outstanding would be closer to the figure for the previous year's figure of 351.
