VIDEO: Illogan school girl to play at regional final of open mic contest
A young guitarist and singer from Illogan, near Camborne, is performing at the regional finals of the Open Mic UK competition - just 16 months after her first ever live performance.
Lucy Walters, 15, known as Lucy Anna on stage, has been playing classical guitar since she was 7-years-old and has recently started penning her own songs.
The young singer first performed in front of her entire school, around 1,000 pupils, at Pool Academy last year.

Now having appeared at small venues across Cornwall, she will be performing in front of her biggest audience to date at the St Georges Concert Hall in Bristol on November 3.
If she wins the regional Open Mic final she faces the area final and then the grand final at the O2 in London.
Her proud father, Jon Walters said of his daughter’s musical talent: “She was very shy at first and wouldn’t even play for her family or friends. She used to play in her bedroom and then came to me asking how she can get her music out there.”
She went on to appear at the Countryman in Piece, near Camborne and the Shack at Carlyon Bay Hotel and Lusty Glaze Beach Restaurant, which, he said helped build her confidence.
He added: “She was too nervous to even speak on stage at first and didn’t even introduce her songs. Now she seems to have conquered her nerves and seems to love performing.
“She is very humble and isn’t motivated by fame. She just wants to make a living doing what she loves. We have been constantly amazed how one event has led to another when people have heard her sing and have been pleased when sound engineers such as John Cornfield and Paul McKenna have complimented her voice.”
Lucy said her favourite performers were Jesse J, a judge on the BBC’s talent show ‘The Voice’, and Gabrielle Aplin.
Her first track, 'Like a Beach' has even been featured on David White’s BBC Introducing. She has also recorded two other tracks which are due to be released.
