VIDEO: Laurie McGlone battling back to fitness for Cornish Pirates
Cornish Pirates forward Laurie McGlone is hoping to continue his return from shoulder surgery with a successful run-out against Bath University today.
The back-row forward played 40 minutes of Pirates’ triangular tournament with Cinderford and St Austell last weekend and hopes to build on that this afternoon.
The Pirates play their first game of the Championship season on September 15, when they face Bristol at Exeter Chiefs’ Sandy Park.
He said: “I’m feeling pretty good after a long pre-season this year. I’ve been battling back from the shoulder surgery I had in April. I got my first run-out last week and came through that fine, so I’m hoping to get a decent run-out again this weekend leading into the first game of the season against Bristol.”

Despite losing a 40-minute game to Cinderford last weekend, the Pirates’ players still feel as though they have had a successful pre-season.
Their appearances in Championship finals, extending two previous seasons into May, means this was their first proper summer to prepare since 2009.
McGlone said: “The guys all say we’ve had a really good pre-season, and we’re looking forward to getting into the competitive matches now.”
