VIDEO: Perranporth surfer Ben Skinner tests Wavegarden facility in Spain for Carve magazine
PERRANPORTH surfer Ben Skinner has just returned from filming this impressive video where he tests out a purpose built wave facility in Spain for a feature in top UK surfing magazine, Carve.
The European longboard champion, 28, was recorded taking on this three foot wave at the Wavegarden test centre in northern Spain.
It is a purpose built facility designed to create perfect surf in a controlled environment.
He is seen carving through the green water on his signature Skindog Surfboards 9’1” Eurostar green longboard, often standing on the nose of his board as the wave powers behind him.

Top surfers Alan Stokes, Harry Timson and Toby Donachie also feature in the video.
Ben said: “It’s a technical wave and the facility an amazing experience altogether.
“I’m not really sure if someone has taken a longboard on that wave before. But because it consistently generates the same wave it’s fairly simple to pick up.
“There’s nothing quite like it. It teaches you a lot about your technique.”
It is all part of a feature put together by Carve Surfing Magazine discussing whether the Wavegarden is a good idea.
Plans to build a similar facility in Bristol are in the consultation stage.
Ben believes if the facility is built in the UK it could help the campaign to make surfing an Olympic sport: “If surfing does become part of the (Olympic) games, then it will become televised and help generate cash that can be ploughed back into the development of the sport.
“It will be an amazing thing for the UK if the Wavegarden is built and the first one in the world open to the public.”
Ben is usually found surfing his local break at Perranporth or shaping boards out of his St Agnes-based Skindog Surfboards factory.
He is preparing to travel to the Azores next month where he will defend his European title.
