It was organised by Cornwall Anti Cuts Alliance in conjunction with other community groups at the top of Trelowarren Street, between noon and 1pm.

Changes to housing benefit legislation due to come into effect from next month will mean people living in social housing who are deemed to have too much living space will have their payments cut.

“You have to laugh at Mebyon kernow members protesting tax hikes!

Which is the only party to have mooted "Cornish only" taxes?

Which is the only party to have a bed tax for visitors on it's agenda?

Which party wants to spend £ £ £ millions on an assembly for Cornwall?

Which party wants more tax and spend powers for the county council? (Under the guise of an assembly.)

Which party does not have a single costed item in its policy website?

Answer to all the above questions; Mebyon "sons of Cornwall" Kernow.

No wonder no one votes for them!”

“The tax system is not fit for purpose, and its like that in most countries. Its overly complicated so you need a whole industry just to manage it. If they just taxed at source a proportion of your income, you wouldn#t need all these stealth taxes that seem to sit unfairly on the lower income members of society.
There are too many tax loopholes and to many tax laws that only allow for people who can and should pay to not.
The tax syatem is its own living entity needed more taxes just to live.”

“As a proportion of income, the bottom 10% of society are paying a much higher price for the failings of Bankers and politicians, than the top 10%. The poor and downtrodden have always bailed out the rich, even during the wars, the rich officers would send the poor privates over the top to be decimated, to the sound of 'Jolly bad form that, what'. Nothing much has changed since, the rich are well protected from the financial mess their school chum caused, still never mind, those poor chappies from the workhouse will pick up the bill.

Anyone who can actually get a full time, all year round position paying anything over NMW in Cornwall, is a very lucky person indeed. The slimy smirk on the face of Osborne reminds me of the 'Spitting Image' puppets, boy would they have a field day with this lot.

To those who put down the less fortunate in this County and Country, did Maggie steal tour morals along with your milk ? As someone I knew once said, "Don't get sick or poor under the Tories, they will only tax you on it" I sincerely hope that you are fit and well and are safe in your jobs, I would hate for you or your families to suffer in the way that so many of the Cornish & British have at the hands of the wealthy.”

“Never before in the sad history of Socialist Politics have the Left been in such denial of the culpability of their leaders, nor in the denial of the indebtedness they have just allowed to grow and grow just buying the votes that kept them in power for so long.

Just taxing and spending the savings of the thrifty won't bring the books back into balance again.

People have to start living within their means again. That's all that 'austerity' means.

“It obviously suits the main parties to call UKIP right wing. Remember the Iraq invasion? Labour, the Left, at work and most of them still there and looking for another chance to get their snouts into the trough. UKIP, for those who have an open mind, wants the UK and not Europe to be taking decisions that affect this country's future. Throwing dead fish back into the sea is madness, but that is the sort of madness we expect when someone hundreds of miles away is making decisions. When you stop paying benefit to people who have never contributed a penny then you can start increasing benefits for your own unemployed etc. What impact do you think will result from another eastern European invasion next year?”

“Surprised no-one has mentioned the 25% extra these bedroom tax protesters are likely to pay in council tax beyond paying for rooms they cannot do anything about.

Some of you may recall I was the lone voice in calling out the council for insisting the poorest in the county have now lost 25% of their council tax benefit... on top of their woes with extra rooms.

I have a £186 bill now. I wonder how Cornwall Council will decide how much of that I can pay, when they already know I cannot pay the back rent they claim I owe them for mucking me around when I was under their care.

Never mind MK and UKIP. Just find the best person you know in your ward/constituency and convince them to stand for election. I am standing in Penzance East (Town Council). Obviously I have no friends I can trust.”

“No point voting UKIP on issues like this. Right wing Tories like them because they represent the views and aspirations of 1980s Tories rolling back the state etc. If you look at the small print UKIP want less spent on social welfare than even the ConDems and only want state spending through an increase in defence and the army. For the real manifesto listen to people like Liam Fox who wants to cut the NHS. He is probably in the wrong party now. I doubt whether UKIP give a fig about benefit cuts in places like Camborne.”

“Well said lance99. MK stands for all the people of Cornwall, not just the wealthy few. A political party which embraces social justice.

Yep, it's time for a change. That's why come the 2nd May, my vote's for MK.”
