A van burst into flames on a Devon road with heat and smoke affecting a nearby house. Such was the intensity of the flames from the van on West Street, Tavistock, that engineers from Western Power attended to check safety of overhead cables. The incident happened yesterday at just before 9.20am after fire control received a call from the van driver and passing drivers. One fire engine from Tavistock attended the scene – the fire had broke out in the electrical box in the rear of the vehicle. Two firefighters wore breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire with hose reel jets.
