Village show pulls out all the stops
DESPITE the heavy rain there were still lots of villagers and visitors at the Treknow Village Garden Club Show near Tintagel.
The show was scheduled for July but postponed due to a lack of produce and flowers in the hope the situation would improve.

There were entries in all classes, young artists challenging the imagination with drawings of Cornish giants and creating gardens on plates. Alexander Gomez was the overall winner in the 0 to 5 age group for his Mr Potato Head and decorated mini-Swiss roll.
His sister Anna Marie created the best garden on a plate in the 6 to 12 age group, and Henry Dryden among those aged 0 to 5.

Overall winner in ages 6 to 12 was Jack Goldstraw, with his decorated roll. William Grosse's Cornish giant was a winner and so was Georgi Daglish's Mr Potato Head. In the younger group Amos Mayland won with his Cornish giant.
Overall points winner in the adult classes was Jenny Patterson with firsts for a single rose, a pot of geraniums and her marmalade.
Eddie May had the best tomatoes, beetroots, radish and potatoes; Ailish Robertson won the flower arrangement classes, while Janet Douglas created the best posy and grew the wonkiest vegetable.
Joan Stokeley provided the best three flowers of one colour and best courgettes. Keith Barley created the winning insect photograph and Len Farrant the best piece of handicraft. The best three sweet peas were by Jean Whiting, the longest stick of rhubarb by Pat Nutt and the longest runner bean by David Pickthorn.
Karen Hart made the best chocolate Victoria sponge and Lesley Barley the best savoury quiche.
Treknow Village Garden Club meets on the fourth Friday of each month at Treknow Village Hall at 7.30pm. The next meeting will be on September 21 when Tim Ellis of Ellis Nurseries will be the speaker. Visitors and new members are always welcome.
