Villagers get a proper hall at last
RESIDENTS of a village near Truro turned out in force to celebrate the official opening of a new £250,000 village hall.
Malpas Village Hall was officially opened by the Reverend Ted Barton.
Funded by £200,000 from the Big Lottery Fund and cash from Cornwall Council, St Clement Parish Council, the SITA Cornwall Trust and Malpas residents, the hall has been hailed as a huge asset for the local community.
Martin Stoner, from the village hall committee, said: "It's an incredible achievement for Malpas, and a long time in the making.

"The old village hall was basically a wooden shack with a corrugated iron roof – which served the community for 120 years.
"Now Malpas has something that's a huge boost for the village. You can hire out the hall for functions or meet people there. It's a great asset, and the first real village hall that we've had."
A spokesman from the Big Lottery Fund said it was the largest distributor of National Lottery good cause funding across the UK.
"The fund aims to enable others make a real difference to communities and the lives of people most in need," he said.
