The victim was walking home and had just reached the top of some steps at the end of an alleyway in West Park when she was approached from behind and had her handbag snatched.

The offender ran off down a bridal way in the direction of Egloshayle Church.

The victim was not injured as a result of the incident but was naturally shaken up.

The beige double strapped handbag contained over £100 in cash, together with credit cards and some food items.

The offender is described as a male teenager, aged between 14 and 18 years, medium build and wearing dark clothing with a white motif between the shoulder blades on the rear of his top.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time or from anyone who has any information regarding the incident.

They can be contacted on 101 and please quote police reference BW/13/19 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or report online at www.Crimestoppers-uk.org

“The problem with community 'rough justice' is the vigilantes invariably admit to it because they think they are morally right, and then the criminal justice establishment - CPS and Judiciary - come down on them like a ton of bricks to discourage any more. If you are going to give a mugger a battering, and I don't advocate it, then be a loner. Don't leave DNA, vehicle recognition or CCTV evidence, and definitely don't brag about it afterwards even to your partner or your best mate.”

“Toromocho, agree with your sentiments, but the major flaw in your post is that, given the nature of his offence, I would imagine his manberries are too insignificant to allow this to be done!!!!”

“How long before people take these cases into their own hands and start handing out rough justice? I, for one, could not find it in my heart to blame them. This little boil on the backside of life deserves a damn good beating!”

“This offender, when caught will not get the punishment that he/she deserves, it will again be a slap on the wrist. Time and again we are informed by the courts of the sentences they hand out, and time and again we all say as one that its NOT ENOUGH. What should we all do? How can we get the courts to hand out harsher sentences.
If its about money then I for one would be willing to pay a little more to keep these thugs in prison for longer, or, if that fails then I would be happy to swing the birch myself....where do i sign up!!”

“I see West Park has not changed since I was a kid, and that was over 20 years ago. But I agree with other comments, he will just get a telling off and a fine at most.”

“You'll be lucky First Impressions all he'll get is a slap on the wrist and a "Don't do it again". The more they're allowed to get away with so-called minor offences the more they will continue to do it. Come down on nthem hard. I'm still waiting to see what the sentence is when the victim is a judge.”
