Walk will support dementia patients
VOLUNTEERS are being asked to come forward to help support a sponsored memory walk in Hayle.
The walk, in aid of the Alzheimer's Society, encircles Copperhouse Pool, with an option of a longer route extending over the Towans for those who want more of a challenge.
Money raised from the memory walk will go towards supporting the charity's services such as memory cafés, which are currently held in Penzance and Carbis Bay, as well as a telephone befriending service and one-to-one assistance from dementia support workers.
Walk organiser Katherine Strick said she wanted people to recognise it was still possible to achieve a great deal and have a good quality of life through every stage of living with dementia: "If you love walking and are feeling fit, then please join us for the full distance," she said.
"If the shorter route is your limit we would be delighted to have you too.
"Whether you raise £1 or £1,000, the Alzheimer's Society puts it towards ensuring those living with dementia can hope for a better future."
The walk takes place at 2pm on September 22. The shorter walking route is flat and accessible to wheelchairs.
