Walking festival boasts 25 coast and country routes
The range of routes included in this month's Fal River Autumn Walking Festival is almost double the number of last year's event.
Guides from across Cornwall are organising a total of 25 different walks this year, compared to 14 in 2011.
Sponsored by The Nare hotel, the festival has been able to expand its programme thanks to an increase in offers from walk leaders.
The 17-day festival will feature walks around the Fal River, from the Roseland Peninsula in the east to Helford in the west and as far inland as Truro. They cover diverse areas of interest including wild food foraging led by Rachel Lambert, conservation walks led by Helford Marine Conservation Group and local history from experts including the Carrick Ramblers, the National Trust and Natural England.

The festival also caters for those interested in the health element of walking and there will be a number of Nordic walking workshops and fitness walks led by Walk Kernow and Kate Jackson.
Festival director Toby Budd said: "It is great to see people coming together to share their passion for walking in Cornwall. We have almost doubled the number of guided walks taking place, with up to four walks to choose from on each day of the festival. This is in addition to the many self-guided walks that are available during the 17 days of the festival – as well as the rest of the year."
The full list of events is contained in a free 80-page festival booklet.
"The walk programme is a visible way to show that the festival is significantly growing in strength and it's really encouraging to see that expansion in the space of a year," added Toby.
Beginning on Friday October 19, it runs until Sunday November 4. For more information, visit: www. falriver.co.uk/walkingfestival
