Water babes aim to help man the lifeboat
A cross-channel swim hopeful is enlisting recruits for a new charity challenge in Devon this summer.
Kate Jackson took to the sea yesterday with East Devon Babes teammates Jo Billing and Kathy Anzuino to launch the Sidmouth to Ladram Bay swim, which is being held on June 16.

After taking up open-water swimming together three years ago, the East Devon Babes plan to follow the event with a cross-channel swim later this year.
Funds raised will be shared between Sidmouth Lifeboat and the Chestnut Appeal, Devon and Cornwall's local prostate cancer charity.

"We train in the sea all year round at Sidmouth and felt that we wanted to raise both awareness and sponsorship for the lifeboat based there," said Kate, who came up with the idea.
She added: "We are very pleased that the Chestnut Appeal has agreed to partner us for this event. We have swum with them before and they are always well organised and great fun. We hope to bring some of that spirit to Sidmouth!"
David Squires from the Chestnut Appeal said: "We are delighted to have been asked by Kate to join this very exciting event. This section of the Devon coastline makes a stunning backdrop to the swim and we hope that local swimmers will take up the challenge."
