Water pump restored to former glory in Lerryn
An old water pump in Cornwall that sat unloved and unused for years has been restored to its former, fully operational, glory.
The historic pump in the centre of Lerryn, near Lostwithiel, had fallen into disrepair and St Veep Parish Council resolved to conserve it as an important relic of the village history.

Councillor Partick Clark, an architect, drew up the plans to restore the pump before local tradesmen Steve Hawken and Trevor and Andrew Hawes set about giving the old Lerryn pump a new lease of life.
The restoration project is just the first part of a village plan that could see the parish take over responsibility for the 19th century lime kilns adjacent to the pump and the waterside village car park which is in the process of being handed over from Cornwall Council.

The parish council has already taken over control of the public toilets.
Canon John Halkes, chairman of the St Veep Parish Council, said: "Members were keen to make these assets work for the benefit of the local community and also to make the environment of the village of Lerryn beautiful and sustainable."
